OUR INSPECTION PREPARATION SERVICES IN ACTION
Under UK law, Annual Insurance and 5-Yearly Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) inspections are mandatory for industrial steam and high-pressure hot-water boilers. These inspections safeguard both performance and safety, confirming that the plant is fit for continued operation.
Our engineering team was called upon to prepare Essity Paper Mill’s boiler plant for this vital NDT inspection, and we documented the entire process in a compelling behind-the-scenes video.
the INSURANCE INSPECTION PROCESS
Industrial boilers are subject to extreme pressures and temperatures. Over time, scale, corrosion, and general wear can compromise performance and, if unchecked, safety. Before an NDT inspection can take place, the boiler must be stripped, serviced, and made fully accessible, a complex process demanding both technical skill and precision planning.
1. STRIP AND INSPECT
Our confined-space qualified engineers began by dismantling key components, safety valves, access doors, gauges, and fittings, to expose the inner surfaces of the boiler. Every removed part was inspected, cleaned, and assessed for wear or damage.
2. CLEANING AND DESCALING
Inside the boiler shell, years of hard, built-up deposits were carefully removed. This is one of the most physically demanding stages, requiring both skill and endurance within confined environments. The video captures the teamwork and precision involved as engineers work methodically to restore internal surfaces to inspection condition.
3. SERVICING AND REASSEMBLY
Once the cleaning was complete, we serviced the valves and fittings, replacing all seals and gaskets with new components. The team then reassembled the boiler, testing and tightening every joint and fixture to ensure a leak-free, compliant system.
4. FINAL TESTING AND HANDOVER
Before sign-off, the boiler underwent a full functional test. With every component operating correctly and all safety mechanisms verified, we handed the system back, fully prepared for its NDT inspection.
