What is a D-Patch Boiler Repair?

A D-Patch repair is used to restore areas of an industrial boiler where defects have developed in the shell, furnace, or access tube. Named for its distinctive shape, the patch is designed with radiused corners to minimise stress concentrations post-welding.

Once a defect is confirmed, a specification is drawn up detailing the patch size, material, and welding procedure. The damaged section is then cut out and replaced with a precision-fabricated patch, which is seal-welded in place. Final pressure and steam tests confirm the integrity and safety of the repair.
